What to check first
- Requirements: minimum role, minimum account age, minimum server time. Without them a giveaway is an invitation to alt accounts.
- Whether it can reroll when a winner does not respond, and whether that reroll is announced.
- What happens if the bot is offline when the timer ends — some resume, some silently never draw.
- Whether entries are visible to staff, so a disputed result can actually be checked.
The whole point of a giveaway is that people believe the outcome. That belief comes from things being visible: how many entered, what the requirements were, who won and why the reroll happened. A bot that announces a winner with no way to see any of that will produce accusations the first time somebody wins twice, and there will be no way to answer them.
Requirements are also your only defence against alt accounts. A giveaway open to anyone who joined ten seconds ago will be entered by people who joined ten seconds ago, repeatedly. Account age and time-in-server filters cost you nothing and remove most of it.
Check the timer behaviour before running anything long. Giveaways are the feature most affected by a bot restart: the ones that store the end time in a database pick up where they left off, and the ones that used an in-memory timer simply never draw. A week-long giveaway that quietly expires is worse than not running one.
